... of Baja California.

We've officially gone off the reservation to vacation in Mexico for the first time ever (TJ does not count!).

There were so many things we worried about: crime, passports (don't need 'em yet), customs, not knowing the language (don't look at me like that, I took French), and so far not a one has proven to be a trauma.

The people are really nice (although it sure is weird to feel like a stranger in a strange land... grokking, anyone?), and the waves crashing against the beach are a balm on my soul.

I've already gotten the obligatory sarong that really doesn't go with my bathing suit and the necklace we had to haggle over that, while lovely, surely can't be purple tiger eye. Is there even such a thing?

I've officially been converted from margaritas to daiquiris. Rum... yum. Strawberries.

I'm sure I'll be a jillion pounds heavier after this week of vacation (we've been here since Saturday, and I've discovered there's wireless in the lobby) because we're all-inclusive. For all you foodies out there, I'd like to list my breakfast for posterity (I however will not list how much *g*):

chocolate croissants
Mexican hot chocolate (just add a hint of cinnamon)
some kind of thin pastry with sugar sprinkled on top (almost like an elongated croissant)
Belgian waffles
bacon
orange juice

Lunch in town (our first venture off the resort):
tortellini de bosco (tortellini with tomato cream sauce, sun dried tomatoes, porcini mushrooms, bacon and sage leaves)
Coke, because there absolutely is NO Pepsi here.

Dinner will be steak at the steak house because the couple we're vacationing with insists. *g*

We did a whirlwind tour of San Jose and Cabo San Lucas, but we'll do the more detailed tour Friday. Tomorrow Mr. Q (he prefers Q for short *g*) goes fishing with his brother, and my sister-in-law and I are off for surfing lessons. Later we all get massages. Dear God, I promise to *really* appreciate it if you let me win the lottery. ;-)

We've seen whales breaching in the distance, cows meandering along the estuary paths to town and drank daiquiris while knee deep in the Sea of Cortes. We took a glass bottom boat ride (perhaps large skiff is the better word, but in my mind that made it more fun) to the arches on the tip of Baja California and ogled the yachts in the marina (so do you think the Mariah II could be Mariah Carey's? *g*). We're hoping we hit the Sammy Hagar lotto and have a show on Friday when we go to Cabo Wabo. I'll keep you posted. *g* It's not often I get the opportunity to freeze the moment as it's happening and know that, months from now, looking back on this post, I was sitting on the couch in my hotel room watching the hammock on our porch swing in the breeze as waves crashed on the beach just outside my door. Time for stroll along the shore.

Since I'm all set up with photobucket, I'll try to upload some photos to post later. Hasta!
