Heh... well, *I* wouldn't have paired him with Cho under any circumstances, were I the mastermind behind the series... but, I trust she knows what she's doing...
Harry's judgement in many things over the course of Book 5 was severely skewed. To paraphrase Dumbledore, I wasn't surprised, but it may profoundly effect everything - as in, destroying his capacity for romantic love. Or it may not. For all we know, the whole point of the H/C in Book 5 may have been the breakup at the end, which in turn may have been solely for the purpose of seguing into (or, more likely, seguing into a segue) the (arguably) foreshadowed H/G romance. I hope not, but that would be better in my mind than H/C.
Heheh... I think it is more like *I* agree with *your* assessment of the non-function of romance (ie. to fix). You came across clearly, I was just interpolating what I thought were a few unspoken words.
About that *real* Ch 2 business... that wasn't meant to be a criticism of the Prologue or Chapter 1, I was just poking a little anal-retentive (love you, Freud) fun at your referring to Chapter 1 as Chapter 2 above. Stupid, I know. Incidentally, I seem to be the only person I know who thinks that Tom Felton circa Chamber of Secrets looked eerily like Eminem (and then there was that part with the hood-thing in Prisoner of Azkaban). Your thoughts?
I'm glad there won't be fluff (or too much fluff) in this. Fluff really has no place in Harry Potter; it's boring as a rule, usually ooc, and often the province of writers lacking the imagination (or bravery) to venture into the darker world of post-GOF. I understand that for many writers (especially as most fanfic writers are women, or so I've been told), a fluffy interlude is like a cup of coffee between shifts at work - necessary to keep you from collapsing on the job - but that should never come at the expense of the integrity of the work. Anyway... As much as I'd like to see a dark!Harry, Rowling has already precluded that possibility, so I guess I'll have to settle for the dark-er/edgier!Harry of OotP and beyond. That combination is usually a lot more in-character than full-out SithLord!Harry in any case. More's the pity.
It's always a pleasure to talk with the author about their writing, especially when they are as coherent and open (as opposed to being defensive to the point of rudeness) as you are.
