I signed up for Chapter 10 of "Shadow", which is a round robin Firefly story where authors sign up to take on one chapter at a time.
I had twenty-four hours to come up with between 100-1000 words, and as usual had to trim it down at the end. Wow, am I wordy!
Anyway, if you like Firefly, here's the link to the previous chapters (Shadow) and here is my contribution.
So, here is at least part of chapter 4, and might end up being all of it for now, even though it's a little short. I hope you enjoy! Thanks to helen_c and beachtree (who's been asking since January - that's how slow I am! *g* ) for reminding me you're still waiting, and thanks brandywine421 for the table info and the help! Cheers!
( Chapter 4 )
You know, this is addictive! Thanks, brandywine421 for the challenge! The picture wasn't easy to write for, but it sure did turn into something other than what I expected!
Also, I know this isn't HP, but could this count as fluff, wishweaver? I can write fluff - really! ;-)
The photo for this challenge is here.
My response? Written in The O.C. verse. I was really looking for an excuse to write another Firefly ficlet, but couldn’t seem to be able to buy there being jelly beans in space. Turkish delights, perhaps, but not jelly beans. *g*
Just as a warning, there's cursing and some frank talk, but this is a teenage boy we're talking about. I'd expect no less. Hope you enjoy!

I'm still here! Thanks, by the way, brandywine421, for the nudge (I didn't know they had that sort of thing in Live Journal), and Beachtree for the email! I've been sick, traumatized, and blocked, although not necessarily in that order, but have still occasionally lurked, albeit silently. I've certainly missed being on line and writing.
Thanks for the invite, Wishweaver, and sorry I haven't been much of a participant. I love what you've done!
So... I'm still pushing forward with my fics - no orphans here, just latchkey kids.
I just wanted to give an update to all you kind peeps - sorry for the disappearance act. Expect more fic, and more comments. I've missed you all, and come bearing cookies! ::mwah::
For woodsong_1978, who gave a sentence as a prompt that intrigued me enough to write a tiny cookie about it. For Firefly. With spoilers for the BDM, one curse word and hints of slash.
I know, I know, yet another fandom to be obsessed about. Speaking of which, if this is the real deal, how cool would it be?

Just a warning, this has got curse words in it, but really - when you write from a teenager's pov, how can you not? ;-) Hope it doesn't offend! Oh, and this is O.C.
By the way - ATLB gets worked on this weekend, as I officially dig into the pain/joy/masochism which is NaNoWriMo. Good luck to all you participants out there!!!
This time, instead of doing just one original story (which I did last year), I've modified the goal to be written words applied towards any variety of fics I'm working on. That keeps me from wrapping myself completely around the axle if I start to feel stymied.

Well, enough blather and on with the angst! I hope you enjoy, joey51! *waves*

CHINO, Calif. - An Orange County sheriff's reserve deputy was ordered to trial for allegedly pulling a gun on two slow-playing golfers and threatening them at Los Serranos Golf & Country Club.
"When I saw him cock his gun, something fell out and my mouth dropped. I couldn't believe this was happening on a golf course," said golfer Marcelo Bautista, 35, a Los Angeles teacher who was playing on the course with his uncle Gustavo Resendiz.
Bautista and Resendez continued playing but Yi followed them, pushed Resendiz and then cocked his gun.
At the end of Monday's preliminary hearing, Superior Court Judge Raymond Youngquist said there was enough evidence to order trial. Yi is charged with two counts of assault with a firearm and two counts of making criminal threats. He will be arraigned Nov. 1.
It's not every day you find horses hanging out in your driveway. For someone who lives out in the country, I had absolutely no idea what to do about it. Get carrots? Apples? Sugar cubes? And if they came near me, what would I do then? Rope them? *yeah right*... ;-)
It was an odd conundrum.
Our elderly neighbors gave us a call when they noticed our equestrian visitors. As it happens, the husband has a broken collar bone but was still trying to shoo the horses away in case they drifted into *his* yard and broke their above ground sprinklers. His wife wanted to make sure we were taking care of things (which she was sure we were) so she could tell him to get back inside. Why was she so sure we were on top of it? Because she saw Mr. B standing outside, and knew we work on those computers...
I think she meant having access to the internet. Perhaps I should have Googled what to do next? *g*
So my good deed for the day was to call the police dispatcher and instruct them on where to fetch our four legged escapees. Good thing I had binoculars, busybody that I am, because it turned out there was another one down by the highway, where the speed limit is 65. That could have been a tragedy.
All in all, it seems likely the rest of the day will be just as odd. My mother and sort-of-uncle are coming over later to introduce us to the fine art of elk eating... I must be a city girl, because that just doesn't sound all that enticing (although they both swear it's fantastic). Me? I'm reserving judgment. After all, my mum likes stuff like liver and sauerkraut too, and I know for a fact that my almost-uncle adores menudo. :-D
Oh, and I want every day to be like Monday was! Talk about update city! *squees happily at awesome O.C. fics*
On another note, I spent last weekend watching ALL of Veronica Mars... Wow! That show just kept pulling me back in! Let's hope this next season does as good a job. The first season always seems to be the best, doesn't it? *sighs wistfully*
By the way, ATLB is coming along nicely, but as this is a bigger confrontation scene, it's taking a little longer. I haven't forgotten my beloved HP (and can I say how nice it is to finally be able to start reading post-HBP stories? *g*). Speaking of which, anyone have yarn colors (must be super soft yarn) and pattern suggestions for a novice with a keen desire to knit an HP scarf before GoF comes out? *g*
Well, on with the show. I'll be curious how you think I'm doing at keeping the O.C. spirit as I introduce the big turn of events. Enjoy!
( Skeletons in the Closet - Chapter 3 )
So here I am with a second chapter to the fan fiction story I've started for The O.C. Have no fear, I'm still plugging away on ATLB. I'm rather pleased I'm multitasking (although we'll see how it lasts). I didn't think I was capable of doing multiple stories at once, but so far I'm doing okay. Any mistakes are my own, as I'm not having this beta'd. I'm just posting and moving on. Comments are always welcome!
So here's the thing. With all that's been going on in RL, I've been feeling just a tad bit blocked with ATLB. Not hugely, I've just been... easily distractible. To get myself writing again, I've decided to see how well I do in another fandom.
This is for The O.C... It'll be angst, like all my stuff is. I have an old friend that reminds me of Seth, so writing this has been a lovely trip down memory lane. If you're reading this, B., you know who you are. :-D
I hope you enjoy. I'm going to post on ff.net as well in a few days (ff.net won't let new members post, apparently), but it will be under another name. I know people are set up to get alerts any time I post anything, and I'm too chicken to face their wrath for it not being another HP chapter. :-P
Let me know what you think. Did I capture the spirit of their relationship, because that's my favorite aspect of the show? I'm all about the characters. I hope you enjoy!( Skeletons in the Closet )
